Brazil gambling ban rewrites Pix core rules, blocking bets on three payment rails

On September 30, the Central Bank of Brazil issued three resolutions (BCB Nos. 597, 596, and 595) incorporating the gambling ban into the operating rules governing the Pix, Boleto, and TED payment systems.

The regulations implement the provisions of Provisional Measure No. 1394 and require financial institutions to block payments to betting operators. Exceptions are permitted only for account closures and the return of remaining balances during the gradual phase-out of operations.
