Visa and Revolut carry out passkey-based agentic payment in France

Visa and Revolut have successfully completed a live payment transaction in France carried out entirely by an autonomous AI agent. The pilot marks an important step in bringing machine-to-machine commerce beyond experimental environments and into operational payment infrastructure. It also signals a broader shift in digital wallet architecture toward models designed for secure authorization of transactions initiated by machines.

The payment flow uses biometric Passkey authentication to combine automated execution with direct user control. Rather than requiring the customer to open an app, sign in to a payment service and manually enter payment details, the AI agent creates and sends the transaction request on its own. The account holder’s role is limited to confirming that the transaction falls within previously authorized parameters through a secure, one-click biometric verification on their device.
